Want to Know More About The History of Steampunk Hats?
What materials were used to make hats?
In the early 1800s, top hats were made from a combination of cloth, linen, flannel, and shellac. Shellac is a special type of resin that was baked into the cloth to make it rigid, allowing for taller hats than before.
Once that was nice and solid, it was then coated in black silk to give it that sophisticated look. Using this method, hats could reach up to 20cm tall!
